I have never wanted a dress more in my life. I spent several hours online searching for it and found nothing. Crushed. Yesterday I emailed Chapman and asked for her help. Today, my heart was racing when I heard back. "The Mexican embroidered dresses are amazing. They look even better on. Contact the Mignot sisters either on their website or by phone (number removed). If you dont get an immediate response keep trying as they are often sailing and surfing and not near the phone." I checked the site and was once again crushed—it's priced at a pretty fortune. If only. Know of a similarly styled dress that fits a recessionista's barely-there budget? Talk to me. Please.

Right now, Minnetonka Moccasins are it. What are you in the mood for? There's length varieties, color options, layered fringe and lacing decisions. A group of us are getting territorially playful as to who will have which shoe first. No one actually called dibbs, but I bet bucks (not the internet sensation) some us would have. Haute Stuff | Shrimp Earrings

Last Wednesday I got this urgent phone message from my friend Malina (another post about her forthcoming) re: shrimp. It was hard to hear her voicemail because she's in New York and all kinds of city noise obstructed the translation. 

My first guess was that it involved sale pricing of seafood at Whole Foods, assuming she was still in town. Incredibly surprised, it was about my favorite style of earrings being sold on the streets of Manhattan. If you have run into me once in the past five months, you know I am addicted to "shrimp" earrings. Luckily, my friend is feeding my addiction, sans high levels of mercury. It’s hard to find a good Michelada in this town, especially since I tend to stick to my side of the river (if you know of places with recipes that rock, let me know).

After a few takes, Bolsa has officially hit the mark with its salt-and-lime rimmed glass full of pellet-sized, crunchy (Sonic-like) ice and perfectly spicy tomato mix. Pour in half your Modelo and continue to add more as you sip this dangerously refreshing drink. And if the fabulous Mark is your server you’re in luck—he's ridiculously sweet and adorable...and will totally look after you.

I have yet to make a Michelada at home but if I were going to, I’d use this recipe that Leila hooked me up with. “Known across the globe as ‘Beto's Michelada’, I snagged this from the hottest bartender in Mexico City,” she says.

Mix in a pitcher: Worcestershire, celery salt, fresh lime juice (he stressed heavily that there must not be seeds), Clamato juice, pepper, Tabasco, and Jugo de Maggi*. Get a large glass, fill with ice and mixture above and add your favorite Mexican beer.

I have a broken microwave and jambox I need to unload. After listening to a report on NPR last week I realized I could no way no how stick them in the trash. Like old cans of paint, old electronics require proper disposal, too. Donna Harris' weekly newsletter, InTownDallas, tipped me on such a service. Do it.

Per the newsletter: They’ll take CPU's,Printers/Copiers, Land & Cell Phones, Monitors, Fax Machines, Game Machines, Laptops, Scanners, Media Equipment, Main Frames, Keyboards/Mice, Video/CD Players, VHS Tapes & CDs, Net Working Equipment, Cables/Wires, Fluorescent Lights and batteries. For a slight charge of $5 or so, they will take televisions, monitors and what not now that are getting harder to recycle.

Haute Stuff | Hunter Wellies

My first love of wellies came when I was just a kid visiting my gran, Maggie, in England. Maybe Paddington Bear had something to do with it, too. Okay it totally did. I still love Paddington Bear. Fast forward. After many years of wanting and wanting and wanting wellies, my man got me a pair of ultra fab green Hunter wellies for my birthday. And after a size exchange, they finally arrived! And they rock my world. These not-just-for-rain boots look awesome with skinny jeans, mini skirts, shorts, thermal leggings—anything. LOVE!!! Thank you!

You gotta give it up for our hometown activist. Her charity organization, Beautiful Love Incorporated Non Profit Development (B.L.I.N.D.), provides community-driven development for inner-city youth through music, dance, theater, and visual arts in South Dallas. Check out the Black Forest Theater. Her album, New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War, is scheduled to drop in late February.
